The city of Harbor Beach invites you to enjoy their rich historical background by participating in their “Historical Walking Tour.”
Encompassing 29 points of interest and stretching around 2 miles, this self-guided tour provides residents and visitors a wealth of information about the heritage and development of Harbor Beach.
Permanent weatherproof signs are placed at significant vantage points for your viewing. The signs include informative text (written by local resident, Wayne (Skip) Kadar), interesting photographs and maps and other pertinent information. A legend displays each historic location.
The first one at the southernmost point of the tour is located at the base of the Trescott Street Pier in the Judge James H. Lincoln Memorial Park and is titled “Harbor Beach Harbor of Refuge.”
Moving along the walk you will enjoy information about Judge James H. Lincoln, The Harbor Beach Lighthouse, The Storm of 1913, Churches, The Harbor Beach Hospital, Frank Murphy, the Frank Murphy Museum, Historical Downtown Harbor Beach, The Community House, Railroads, Detroit Edison, The Grice Museum Complex, Life Saving Station and the Daniel J. Morrell, which is the northern most sign located at the Harbor Beach Marina.
While best enjoyed during beautiful weather along a popular bike and pedestrian path, the wealth of information available is sure to be worth your time and visit to downtown Harbor Beach.
